How it lives
Vineyards is the Keowee community with the Equestrian Center, which gives horse owners a way to keep riding without keeping a farm, and the Fazio course on the lakeside. Like Keowee Falls it is further from everything than Glassy or Valley, and buyers who will depend on Greenville's hospitals or the airport several times a month should drive it at rush hour before they decide.
A day here
A day at Keowee Vineyards
The oldest and quietest of the Cliffs lake communities: eight holes on the water, a marina, an equestrian center with two hundred miles of trail behind it, and a sunset that lands due west over the lake.

- Morning
Eight holes on the lake
Tom Fazio's eighteen here has eight holes directly on Lake Keowee and five with Blue Ridge views; the seventeenth plays to a peninsula green. Its slope of 152 from the back is the highest in the Cliffs network, and Golf Digest ranked it No. 24 in South Carolina in 2025.
- Midday
The Equestrian Center
Stables and trail rides that connect to more than two hundred miles of riding trail through the Jocassee Gorges. It is The Cliffs' equestrian center, and the reason this cove draws a different household than Springs.
- Afternoon
Off the marina
The full-service marina holds about two hundred slips and rents boats, jet skis and kayaks to members. Run north where the shoreline quiets, and plan the last hour of daylight: the sunset here is due west, straight across the water.
- Evening
The Lakehouse, by boat
Memorial Day to Labor Day the Lakehouse is open on its own peninsula: a dining room, a wraparound porch and an open-air pavilion that catches the southwest breeze. Tie up at 6:30. From October the evening moves up the hill to the clubhouse fireplaces.
- Sunday
Upper Whitewater Falls
SC 130 north to Upper Whitewater Falls, 411 feet, about twenty-five minutes each way on mountain road. Back home, ten miles of nature trails run to the community's own waterfalls.
- What to weigh
Remote by design
Quieter and more golf-centric than Springs, and far from any town for groceries or a hospital: Pickens is the nearest full run. Club dues sit on top of the HOA, so model the full carry before the house.

How far, by road
The errands and the towns
By road from the Keowee Vineyards equestrian center. Routed, not guessed.
The errands
The towns
Drive times are car routing on OpenStreetMap data (OSRM), typical conditions and no traffic, from the Keowee Vineyards equestrian center, pulled October 29, 2026. Places are the nearest named grocery, pharmacy and hospital on the map; we left out the dollar stores. The Cliffs' own page puts Keowee Vineyards at around 40 minutes to Clemson, about an hour to Greenville and an hour and a half to Asheville. Real drives land somewhere between the two.

Questions
What buyers ask about Keowee Vineyards
Answered in the journal; the full articles are below.
Is Lake Keowee better for second homes or full-time living?
It works for both, but full-time owners prioritize road access, winter sun exposure, and proximity to Greenville more than weekend buyers do. Weekdays are generally quiet, while summer weekends bring more activity near public access points and certain coves, and homes positioned correctly stay calm even during peak season either way.
Lake Keowee Luxury Real Estate: What First-Time Keowee Buyers Miss
What mistakes do first-time lake buyers make?
First-time buyers often focus on waterfront labels and headline views while missing how Duke Energy shoreline rules, cove orientation, wind exposure, and community governance affect daily life and resale. They tend to assume all Keowee waterfront behaves the same, which can leave them with properties that feel busy, exposed, or compromised once they actually live there. Common misses include underestimating cove traffic patterns, overestimating view longevity as trees mature, and treating The Cliffs communities as interchangeable when they differ in density, amenities, and resale behavior.

What matters most for resale inside private clubs?
Location within the community, privacy, access, and alignment with community norms matter more than finishes.
Mistakes Buyers Make in Private Club Communities Around Greenville
Are all docks the same on Lake Keowee?
No. Water depth, cove orientation, and Duke Energy rules materially affect dock usability at The Cliffs lake communities, and photos rarely show this before purchase.
