How it lives
Cliffs Valley sits closer to Greenville than the lake communities and feels residential year round. It is about twenty minutes to Travelers Rest and 25 to 40 to downtown, depending on who is counting, which makes full-time living here easier for people still tied to the city. The club has a wellness center, tennis and pickleball, indoor and outdoor pools and a trail network that starts at the gate, and the Ben Wright course.
Valley trades some of Glassy's convenience for deeper privacy. Daily needs take more planning than they do in town, and the reward is the quiet.
A day here
A day at Cliffs Valley
The mountain community that never makes you choose between the mountain and the town. Travelers Rest is minutes outside the gate, and most of this day happens on foot or on two wheels.

- Early
The Swamp Rabbit from Travelers Rest
Ride or walk the Swamp Rabbit Trail from Travelers Rest, starting with coffee and a crepe from Tandem Creperie on Main Street. The trail runs more than thirty miles, flat and paved, down into Greenville.
- Morning
A course built to be walked
Ben Wright's 1995 parkland course, par 72, has fewer than thirty bunkers and no blind shots, and almost alone among mountain courses it was designed to be walked. The club says it is playable virtually every day of the year.
- Midday
The Wellness Center and the courts
Fifteen thousand square feet, heated indoor and outdoor pools, group classes, and the largest tennis and pickleball program in The Cliffs. There are eighty member clubs here, the Scotch Club among them, and a private dog park.
- Afternoon
Ride with Hincapie
George Hincapie's Hotel Domestique sits on Road of Vines a few minutes from the gate, and Hincapie runs the cycling program across all seven Cliffs clubs. Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery in Travelers Rest covers the produce, the bread and the butcher counter on the way home.
- Evening
Topsoil, or the 28,000-square-foot clubhouse
Topsoil in Travelers Rest is Michelin recommended and its chef a James Beard semifinalist; dinner Thursday through Saturday, so book. Otherwise the clubhouse, with the panoramic room the club built it for.
- Sunday
US 276 to Caesars Head
Drive 276 up to the Caesars Head overlook, then brunch back at Tandem. Hendersonville and Flat Rock are the other direction, just over the state line, and the club lists both as right outside the gates.

By road from the Cliffs Valley clubhouse. Routed, not guessed.
The errands
The towns
Drive times are car routing on OpenStreetMap data (OSRM), typical conditions and no traffic, from the Cliffs Valley clubhouse, pulled October 29, 2026. Places are the nearest named grocery, pharmacy and hospital on the map; we left out the dollar stores. The Cliffs' own page puts Valley at 25 minutes to Greenville, 50 to Asheville or Lake Keowee, 5 to Mountain Park and 15 to Glassy, starting at the gate. Real drives land somewhere between the two.

Questions
What buyers ask about Cliffs Valley
Answered in the journal; the full articles are below.
What's the difference between Cliffs communities?
The Cliffs is not a single lifestyle decision, it is a geographic one. Living at Glassy versus Keowee Springs versus Mountain Park is materially different, driven by elevation, proximity to Greenville, access to Lake Keowee, and how residents actually use their homes day to day.
Can you live full-time in The Cliffs?
Full-time living in The Cliffs is common, and daily life there centers on home, nature, and scheduled social touchpoints, with residents planning grocery runs to Publix or Fresh Market and medical appointments in Greenville. It suits people who like rhythm and predictability, and it works best when used for weeks or months at a stretch rather than occasional long weekends.
Is Living in The Cliffs Worth It? A Greenville and Lake Keowee Perspective
Is it better to buy or build a home in The Cliffs?
It depends on your timeline and tolerance for process. Buying gets you into a predictable, tested home on a fixed closing date. Building gets you a specific lot and layout but requires living through architectural review, builder scheduling, and site work over an extended period.
Do non-golfers still pay for golf amenities at The Cliffs?
Yes. Many non-golfing buyers still share in the cost of golf infrastructure through broader community expenses. That is part of the model and should be understood upfront by anyone evaluating a purchase.
